  • We will begin a preview of our next grammar chapter on IXL at the end of the week. We will start lessons on Chapter 4 grammar after spring break. 

Science: Scholastic News - "Legends of the Wild West" Read and complete. Once you have completed the magazine you may go onto scholastic.com to explore the magazine even more.

    Day 132 - Home Instruction

    Parents, I have plans ready to go up until spring break. I will update my blog daily with the assignments as I have been doing. If at any point our closure gets extended even longer, then I will update you with our next steps as far as getting workbooks and materials from the classroom.

    Google Classroom - 3rd Grade

    Phonics: WB p. 155-156. These two pages are more review of what you have been working on this week. On p. 156 please write at least 5 sentences.

    Spelling: Unit 25 games. Use the links below to play games with your spelling words. Make sure to choose Unit 25! The games may require Flash Player. I hope this works on the chrome books!
    *There will be no spelling test for this unit. I have enough grades for spelling for the marking period.

    *Unit 25 ABC Order and 10 sentences need to be shared if you have not already done so.

    Math: Reviewing multiplication facts with "Basketball Madness Mystery Reveal" 

    It's been awhile since we've done one of these. Have fun!
    • Find your assignment "Basketball Madness Mystery Reveal"
      • There are 5 challenges to complete in order to finish the message. Once a challenge is complete, go to the next one at the bottom of the screen.
    • Remember your answers need to go in "Column B." If you accidentally put them in "Column A," your problem will disappear and the reveal will not work. 
      • If you erase a problem, click "out" of the box, and click "undo" until it reappears. 
    *I can track your progress in google classroom. I will check for completion on Monday!
      *March math packets will be collected when we return. Students who have not finished should continue working on it at home.

      Reading: We will continue with Mr. Popper's Penguins on Monday.

      Grammar/Writing: Use a google doc to tell me all about your 2nd week at home! Try for at least 8-10 sentences, and make sure to type them in a paragraph. Share it to my email when you are done, so I can read them this weekend!

      Spelling: Unit 25 practice. Have someone at home give you a practice test with your spelling words. You can choose to write them down or just spell them out loud!

      *Unit 25 ABC Order and 10 sentences need to be shared if you have not already done so.

      Math: Lesson 12.11 - WB p. 154. I created a video for today's lesson. Please have your workbook and a piece of scrap paper ready before you start the video.
      Complete #3, 4, and 6 on your own.

      Phonics: WB p. 151-152. Remember to use the "Here's a Hint!" boxes to help you.

      Spelling: Unit 25 WB p. 166-167. Choose 10 spelling words, and write 10 sentences in a google doc. Use the word list on p. 162. Share your sentences with me by the end of the day.

      *8 students did not share the ABC order yesterday. Please make sure to share your ABC order with your sentences today to receive credit.

      Math: Lesson 12.10 - WB p. 153. Today's lesson is very similar to Lesson 12.6 from last week.  Please use your notes and "mini" packet to assist you on this lesson. The top of the workbook page also has examples for the lesson.
      • Here is the video I posted last week. Your problems today will use money, but the steps to solve are still the same. Once again, the numerators on your problems will all be 1 which makes it a little easier for you. (Any number times 1 is that number!)
        *March math packets will be collected when we return. Students who have not finished should continue working on it at home.

        Reading: Read chapters 10-11 of Mr. Popper's Penguins.

        Science: Mystery Science - Watch the video "How does hand sanitizer kill germs?" As you watch, take time to think about the questions just like we do in class.
        When you are finished, choose one more 3rd grade lesson to watch and think about. Remember, you are not required to do the hands-on activities.

        Social Studies: "The West" - Please login to Epic! to complete the assigned book about the West region of the United States.
        • Please take your time reading. The program keeps track of how long you read each story. I am able to see if you are just flipping pages. 
        *If you did not read "What Are the US Regions" on Epic! yesterday, please read today.

        Religion: Pope Francis has written a special prayer to the Blessed Mother asking for her intercession for the whole world as we all weather the terrible Corona Virus together. Use this link to say the prayer together as a family today. You can print and download the coloring page if you'd like to color and hang it.


        Continue researching your saint. You can use the link below to choose any saint, or you can choose a different saint from another site. Use a google doc to record any information you find about your saint. When you are finished, complete the "All About Saint" poster that is in your blue folder. Add some color to decorate your poster! We will share our posters when we return.

        *This project should be completed throughout the week. Please do not try to get it all done in one day!

The directions say to "Add -ing or -ed," but you should be adding -s, -es or -ed. The chart that you are filling in is labeled correctly.

        Spelling: Unit 25 WB p. 164-165   When you are finished, use the list of words on p. 162 to put all 18 words in ABC Order. Please type the ABC order in a google doc, and share it with me before the end of the day.

            Phonics: WB p. 143-144. Possessives - We have worked on possessives in grammar. Use the "Here's a Hint!" boxes to help you with the exercises.
            • singular nouns - add ('s)
            • plural nouns - add (')


            Spelling: There will be no test for Unit 24. Please take the next two days to type the review words 3x each in a google doc. *Do 20 words today, and 20 words tomorrow.

            Math: Lesson 12.7 - WB p. 150. Please use your notes and "mini" packet to assist you on this lesson. The top of the workbook page also has examples for the lesson.    
            *March math packets will be collected when we return. Students who have not finished should continue working on it at home.

            Reading: Read Chapter 6 of Mr. Popper's Penguins. Complete "Understanding the Story" Chapters 4-6 (front and back) in the Novel Study Packet

            Grammar/Writing: "My Writing Journal" - "Create a story about being stranded on an island." Please find and answer this journal in 5-7 sentences. This should be completed in paragraph form. Do not list your sentences. Color the border when you are finished.

            • Before school closed, we were working on "Descriptions." Do your best to "paint a picture" of this island with your writing. Use as many sensory words as you can. *Remember to think of your five senses!

            Science: Scholastic News - "Which Animal Would You Save?" Read and complete this magazine before the weekend.

            Religion: St. Patrick packet - Use the story to complete the last two pages of the packet. Remember to use complete sentences when necessary.

            Gym: Today is another gym day. Try this GoNoodle to keep yourself moving. It is a longer one, so take a break if you need to.. that's what the pause button is for! :)

            Day 125 - Home Instruction

            Spelling: Unit 24 Review - WB p. 160-161

            Math: Lesson 12.6 - WB p. 149. Please use your notes and "mini" packet to assist you on this lesson. The top of the workbook page also has examples for the lesson.

            • Check out this video with a few sample problems. The problems you will complete today all have 1 as the numerator (except the word problem.) That makes it a little easier for you, but be sure to watch the steps all the way through. Divide then multiply!

            Religion: St. Patrick packet - Use the story to complete St. Patrick Vocabulary and St. Patrick Review. You may use your Chromebook to look up the vocabulary words if needed.
